The "actress" who was caught smuggling drugs into the country, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Ottilia Mmatjatji Malatji was apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday, after arriving from Abu Dhabi, when 15.4 kilograms of ephedrine was discovered in her luggage.
Ephedrine, an ingredient in some cold and flu remedies, is commonly used as a basis for the production of the street drug, crystal meth.
A scan of her bags had yielded suspicious images, and she was stopped as she walked through the green "Nothing To Declare" channel at the international arrivals hall.
Officials then discovered 15 parcels wrapped in foil-like material hidden in her luggage.
The 29-year-old Malatji was dressed in a black jacket and jeans holding a pink handbag and she stood in the dock with four other first-appearance suspects from different cases.
Her case was called first and lasted just a few minutes as the prosecutor read out details about her travel and arrest.
The previously nameless woman sparked a social media frenzy under the hashtag #GuessTheActress following her arrest as South Africans desperately tried to figure out who she was.
Initial reports suggested that the woman was a celebrity who'd appeared on local hit soapies. However, SAPS spokesperson, Vish Naidoo, put an end to that speculation when he told eNCA on Monday she was not a famous actress, but had merely played a part as an extra.
The case has been postponed to 7 October 2015 for a formal bail application.
