How weird is this? A king dies in Yorubaland in Nigeria and someone has to accompany him to the underworld, and this person has been holding a title he willingly accepted known as "Abobaku" (He who is to die with the king). Wow! But unfortunately, this time around when the Ooni of Ile Ife (King of Ife) died, his Abobaku was not quite ready to die yet, lol! The man took flight as soon as the news hit the airwaves of the King's passing, and now the people of the land are saying that without the Abobaku returning to accept his fate (being murdered and buried with the King) the funeral rites is deemed incomplete. To defend this idea of Abobaku or whatever for the Ooni's funeral as culture is stupid - culture isn't static. It changes over time.
