A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Youth Democratic Party (YDP) as a political party.
The YDP sent an application to INEC on April 1, 2014. INEC notified the applicants of its decision to not register it as a party on September 15, 2014; some five months later, which makes the action not in sync with Section 78 (4) of the Electoral Act, 2010. The Act says a party should be notified of any such decision at least 30 days later.
Owing to this, Justice Ahmed Mohammed deemed the YDP as being genuinely registered by INEC since it failed to notify the party within the stipulated time.
So what is going to happen now? They will start their campaigns now? Have they done primaries?
